• Reminder of the measurement uncertainty concept and related evaluation tools
  • Learn how to evaluate uncertainties
  • Model and build an uncertainty budget using the '5M’ method
  • Evaluate basic uncertainties using type A and type B methods
  • Calculate an expanded uncertainty
  • Apply the GUM (NF ISO / IEC Guide 98-3) to cases involving the law of propagation of uncertainty
  • Understand the covariance concept
  • Develop skills in determining capabilities (NF ISO/CEI Guide 98-4, NF ISO 22514-7)

This course is designed for employees seeking to learn how to calculate measurement uncertainties, who may be tasked with evaluating measurement uncertainties in complex cases involving indirect measurement (application of the law of propagation of uncertainty.

  • Basic maths skills (derivatives of a function)
  • Basic knowledge of the measurement uncertainty
  • Basic Excel skills

By the end of the course, the participant will understand and know how to use the measurement uncertainty concept. They will be able to evaluate a measurement uncertainty for cases involving indirect measurement (law of propagation of uncertainty) and submit a standards-compliant report (GUM NF ISO/CEI Guide 98-3). They will be able to read an existing uncertainty budget and make critical observations on the method used.
